I know some days it’s hard to get the recommended 30 minute of fitness into your day. The good thing is that we don’t need to do the full 30 minutes all at once. You can break your activity down into smaller segments during the day. Five minutes here and ten minutes there can add up quickly and before you know it you have added some exercise to your day!

Here are some ideas that you can use to help incorporate activity into your day!!

At Work:

  • Walk during your lunch break, run some errands. If you like to eat with a colleague, why not eat your lunch quickly and then go for a walk together.

  • Instead of sending an email to your coworkers, walk over to their desk, its more personal and gets you moving.

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

  • Every hour get up and walk around for a few minutes, grab a glass of water or just take a minute to stretch.

  • Volunteer to go on the office coffee run. You will get to leave the office and get some physical activity out of it.

  • Posture, posture, posture… sit up straight with your feet on the floor and hold your butt and ab muscles in for a static muscle hold.

  • Every time you find yourself browsing social media get up and walk or stretch at your desk

At Home:

  • Before you jump in the shower in the morning or before bed do 10 push ups or 30 crunches.

  • If you want to watch your favorite TV program get off the couch during commercials and do 25 jumping jacks or jog on the spot (if each commercial segment is 2-3 minutes long you can easily sneak in 12-15 minutes of exercise per show.

  • Do some bicep curls while you are giving yourself a facial.

  • Do 20 squats while brushing your teeth.

  • Just get out of the house, go for a walk with the kids, toss the ball around or have a game of tag.

  • Walk the dog if you have one.

  • Turn up the music and have a 10 minute dance party with yourself or your kids. Not only will this get you active but it will definitely improve your mood.

It doesn’t matter what you are doing it just important to stay active and once you start developing these little habits you will want to make other healthy changes in your life too!

Keep it up you are amazing!
