Fitness Friday - Getting My Body Back After Baby

I have always loved fitness and maintaining a “fit” body but with a small daughter around it has definitely been harder to maintain that "fit" body. The fact that I am now 40 doesn't help matters... YIKES that is a hard fact to come to terms with.

Since my little one occupies most of my time when I get home from my “day job” I had to slightly modify my workout routine. I use to love working out to Beach Body videos and going hard core with their fitness regimes, which meant working out to their videos between 5 and 7 days a week. That is not realistic for my current lifestyle. However, I do find the time to work out at the gym in my condo twice a week for about an hour each session. I usually do about 30-40 minutes of cardio on the treadmill (speed walking). I use to enjoy running but research shows that running is not good on your joints or your body in general (I will get into that more on a different post). After my cardio I do about 30 mins of strength training, alternating between chest, arms, back, legs, gluts, abs etc. Eventually, I would like to add another day to my workout regime but for the most part, this schedule seems to work for me.

I am probably still a few pounds from where I was post baby and I am sure the weight has shifted a bit, but I also realize you have to be kind to your body and I think I look and feel pretty good at this stage in my life. Currently I am looking to maintain my body, put on a little more muscle and be as healthy as I can for myself and my daughter.
Some days, especially after work, it can be extremely hard to change into the workout clothes and set off to the gym (even though I am lucky enough to have one in my building), but now it's a part of my weekly routine and I actually look forward to it! Trust me long nights, a busy work schedule and commuting can catch up with you and that's why its soooo important to take a little bit of “personal time” to do something for yourself even if it is a few minutes a day.
Its easy to start feeling selfish when your a mom trying to sneak out a few moments of “me time” but you need to carve out a little time for yourself everyday doing whatever makes you feel good, whether it be a bubble bath, working out or that nice glass of red wine, which I do love too!! lol.
Remember to take care of yourself....
