Test it Out Thursday - Carina Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo and conditioner are two products that most people can’t live without, however, most drugstore and salon brands contain hazardous chemicals in them which can seep into your skin and scalp during your showers. Over time these ingredients can affect your heath and actually cause your hair to become brittle and break, who wants that!!

In the past I have used various Herbal Essences, Dove and Pantene hair care products. The smell alone in some of them made me feel like I was on a mini vacation. However, as you know fragrance among other ingredients like parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, phenozyethanol etc... are potential dangers to your health. Most of these ingredients are very cheap and are added in to help give you a rich lather while at the same time potentially causing you cancer!! UM No thank you!! And once again these products are rated at a “9” on the Think Dirty app.

Carina Organics is a well known natural brand that offers many options to your personal grooming routine. Oh and another bonus is that they are Canadian and I do love to support a good Canadian brand! What is their rating on the Think Dirty app you ask? A very low “3”!

I tried out two different shampoos and conditioners, sweet pea (for colour treated hair) and pink grapefruit for (normal hair).

Carina Organics Shampoo (extra gentle) in sweet pea is a daily moisturizing shampoo formulated for chemically processed or damaged hair. LOVE IT. Love the smell… love the way it made my hair feel… and love the absence of harsh chemicals. It's branded as a daily shampoo but I try to only wash my hair twice as week because it is highlighted and quite long. It cleansed my hair just as well as the other brands and I do enjoy the sweet pea scent.

Carina Deep Treatment Conditioner in Sweet Pea is a deep treatment conditioner that repairs dry chemically treated damaged and overworked hair. Again I love this product. Since my hair is chemically processed I do need extra conditioning and I use this at least once sometimes twice a week!

I wanted to try other products from this brand to see if there was a difference in the shampoo types so I went on to purchase Carina Organics Pink Grapefruit shampoo and conditioner for Normal hair. The shampoo doubles as a body wash which is great because it means one less product taking up space in my bathroom. While I don’t think they are as moisturizing as the sweet pea formulation, for my hair anyways, they are safe to be used on chemically processed hair like mine. The conditioner was nice too but again I need a bit more moisture in my products. I think I am going to invest in the Sweet Pea leave-in conditioner to give my hair the extra moisture it seems to crave.

I highly recommend these products they really do a good job of cleansing and conditioning the hair!

I purchase mine again from Well.ca or Raindance Cosmetics (a great Canadian distributor of natural products) but you can also purchase them directly from the Carina website. They cost about $12.00 a bottle which is a bit more then the drugstore brands but more affordable then the salon ones!

They also have a baby line which is great and I use it on my daughter!
