Lets talk Mascara! I need a good mascara to help enhance my puny eyelashes but I don't like parabens, formaldehyde, preservatives, BTH etc... that are listed among the ingredient list. Again I was on the search for a cleaner product that wouldn't cause harm to my health.
I had two favorites from Sephora, They're Real by Benefit and Better than Sex by Too Faced. Both of these mascaras were rate as 7s on the Thinkdirty App and I knew I had to Toss Them Out!!!
They're Real
This was my daily go to mascara.... I loved the voluminous lash effect I was able to achieve. But then I started taking a closer look at some of the ingredients in this product.

Take a look at these ingredients and decide if it's worth using?!?!
Titanium Dioxide - acts as an opacifying agent and is a possible carcinogen
Phenoxyethanol - acts as a cosmetic preservative and can depress the central nervous system
BHT - is another cosmetic preservative and has been linked to several negative health effects (endocrine dysfunction, tumor promotion and organ system toxicity)
Better than Sex
I used this mascara together with my They're Real mascara to give extra oomph to my lashes for special occasions. But one look at the list of ingredients below and you can see why I eliminated this one from my beauty bag.

Some of the troublesome ingredients are:
Ployester-11 - is used as a film former in products and is a skin irritation and possible carcinogen
Black 2 - is used to give colour to a product and can cause possible organ system toxicity
Ethylhexylglycerin - is used as a mild preservative and has been linked contact dermatitis and can cause skin and eye irritations
Using a mascara that can be toxic to the body systems or a possible carcinogen was not an option for me any longer. I am so thankful I found a few drugstore options that provide the lash building effect I was looking for and I have listed them below....
Organic Wear by Physician's Formula
I tried two mascaras from this brand. I almost gave up on using them but after about a week of continuous use I was able to get a similar lash effect like the Sephora brands I had been using.

Organic wear 100% Natural Origin FakeOut Mascara
This mascara promised to add length and give a natural lash extension with a special fiber technology. The formulation was a bit drier than I was use to and I had to apply multiple coats to give myself the look I was trying to achieving. However 100% of the total Ingredients are from Natural Origin and 70% of the total Ingredients are from Organic Farming. There are no system disrupting or carcinogenic ingredients in this mascara...YAY!

This mascara is my second choice, my favourite is below so keep on reading...
Organic wear 100% Natural Origin Work It! Full! Flared! Fit!
This is actually my daily go to mascara now!! It promised to give me full, long, flared and dramatic lashes that would last through my toughest workouts.
It did take some getting use to when I first started with it. The formulation of this one was a bit wetter then I was use to, but after about a week of use the consistency dried up a bit making for an easier application.
On the Left are my puny lashes and on the Right are my lashes with my Work It Mascara (I use Black!)

Again, 100% of the Ingredients are of a Natural Origin, 70% of the Ingredients are Organic and it also has a Kale, Carrot & Quinoa Protein Blend which builds volume and boosts hydration so your lashes do not become brittle and break. I can say that since using this mascara my lashes haven't been brittle at all!!
The bristles on the brush were quite spaced out and I though it would leave my lashes clumpy but to my surprise they were not clumpy at all! And the brush is made from recycled materials, how awesome is that!!

It also claimed to be water resistant but it definitely is not. I wore this mascara swimming and it started to run after splashing in the water with my daughter. But on the flip side it does come off very easily with soap and water and there is no scrubbing required!!
Again it took some time to get use to this product but once I did I wanted to buy every last one of these mascaras so there would not be a chance of me going without it!!, LOL.
Here I am with my Work It mascara and eyeliner! What a huge difference!!!!

These mascaras can be purchased at Shopper's Drug Mart or PharmaPlus and they are only about $18 each!!! That is an amazing deal since they are about half the price of the Sephora brands.
I really recommend you giving these mascaras a try. Physician's formula also has other mascaras from their Organic Wear line so I am sure you can find one you love as much as I do!
